Born this day in 1902, British composer William Walton. The Five Bagatelles are the only work he wrote for solo guitar. They were written for Julian Bream and dedicated to another British composer, Malcolm Arnold, on the occasion of his 50th birthday. I have a similar feeling playing the second Bagatelle as Satie's Gymnopédies. It has a haunting, meditative melody over a hypnotic accompaniment.
