Day 3 Nairn Museum’s Advent Calendar and we’re looking at this wee book from 1790 handwritten by Alexander Stables, the factor for Cawdor Castle. It’s on paper, written with iron gall ink, which shows traces of oxidising and looks like the text has gone rusty. The book is notes on laws relating to marriages, obligations of the wards, inheritance and heirs. Bound in an older vellum manuscript, we’ll use a black light to read the hidden text.
