Blue-spotted salamanders are secretive forest dwellers that thrive in cool, damp places. Mostly active on rainy nights, they spend most of their time beneath logs and leaf litter, relying on moistened skin and lungs to breathe. Despite their small size, they play a big role in the woodland ecosystem-both as predators of invertebrates and as indicators of environmental health.
