Melasma is a common pigmentation disorder that causes dark patches to appear on the skin, primarily on the face. It’s also called chloasma, or the “mask of pregnancy” when it occurs in pregnant women. It is much more common in women than in men. The patches commonly appear on the bridge of the nose, the forehead, cheeks and upper lips.
