In an ancient city dated to 7500 BC in modern day Turkey called Catalhoyuk people walked on rooftops and entered their mud brick homes through holes in the ceiling. The settlement was laid out like a honeycomb with neighborly houses connected by wooden ladders. Inside each single room were platforms for sleeping and daily tasks while the dead were interred beneath the floors.
