NATO fighter jets were scrambled on Saturday after Vladimir Putin unleashed the most intense wave of drone and missile attacks on western Ukraine since the start of the war. Russia is believed to have launched up to 30 missiles and 700 military drones in a major escalation overnight, targeting cities including Lviv, Lutsk, and Chernivtsi.

The US has resumed military supplies to Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said, after Washington halted some shipments of critical arms last week.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday the United States would supply weapons to Ukraine via NATO and that he would make a "major statement" on Russia on Monday. In recent days, Trump has expressed frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the lack of progress towards ending the war sparked by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
