Three big runs for the Utes sparked an upset. Notre Dame led 13-4 four minutes into the game, but over the next four minutes, Utah outscored the Fighting Irish 15-3 to move ahead 19-16. The Utes led 19-18 after one quarter.

As in their 76-68 loss to No. 17 TCU, one bad quarter doomed the Irish (5-2). They shot just 2 of 11 in the third against the Utes.

The Utes notched a statement win on Saturday afternoon, beating the No. 3 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish 78-67 in the Cayman Island Classic. Utah’s Gianna Kneepkens scored a team-high 16 points. Kennady McQueen (15), Maty Wilke (14) and Jenna Johnson (14) also finished in double figures for the Utes.
