Even before the last vote on U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tax-cut and spending bill was counted, Republicans and Democrats in Congress began gaming out how to use it to gain an edge in the 2026 midterm elections.

James Carville is bracing for impact. The Democratic pundit said that he wouldn’t “put anything past” Donald Trump—and he went so far as to suggest the president might cancel midterm elections in a ploy to prevent the Democrats from winning.

The Democratic strategist believes President Donald Trump will "see the writing on the wall" ahead of the midterms and do anything to stay in power.

That's false. There is nothing in the legislation that would allow Trump, or any future president, to stop an election from going forward.
