Erin was a post-tropical cyclone in the North Atlantic Ocean Friday afternoon Eastern time, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. Erin is the fifth named storm to form in the Atlantic in 2025. Follow our coverage here.

Forecasters warned swimmers that many U.S. East Coast beaches will remain dangerous this weekend, as Erin became a post-tropical storm and moved from the U.S.

Erin’s sustained winds increased to 70 mph, just 4 mph shy of hurricane strength. The hurricane center said Erin should continue to strengthen through the weekend, when it should be moving near or north of the Leeward Islands, according to the official forecast path.
