The statement came amid increasing pressure on the government to take up forcefully with the interim government in Dhaka the issue of attacks on the minorities, particularly Hindus, in the neighbouring country.

Religious minorities in Bangladesh fear a crackdown in the Muslim-majority country amid unrest sparked by the arrest of a popular figure in the Hindu rights movement.

Dhaka police arrested a Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari on Monday. Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was detained at Dhaka airport.

Two more Hindu priests were arrested in Bangladesh, ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das claimed on Saturday.

Chinmoy Krishna Das, the leader of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) in Bangladesh, also popularly known as the Hare Krishna movement, was detained on sedition charge on Tuesday after the magistrate court of Kazi Shariful Islam denied him bail.

The incident happened while a march was being held in Chittagong demanding a ban on Iskcon. Several shops were also targeted after Friday prayers.

Members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal protested in Mangaluru, urging for the protection of Hindus in Bangladesh following the detention of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu. They discussed fears of a systematic effort to drive Hindus out of the country and called for intervention from the United Nations and the Indian government.

India raised deep concerns about the increasing threats and targeted violence against Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal urged Bangladesh to protect all minorities and criticized the surge of extremist rhetoric and violent incidents as serious issues needing immediate attention.
