A French politician has suggested the U.S. is no longer worthy of keeping the Statue of Liberty. Raphaël Glucksmann is a member of the European Parliament and co-president of a small left-wing party.

Raphaël Glucksmann, a European Parliament member, claims the U.S. no longer represents the ideals of the iconic statue.

The White House responded by saying that “it's only because of the United States of America that the French are not speaking German right now.”
