A Mammoth Mountain ski patroller injured in an avalanche on Valentine’s Day has died. The resort identified the patroller as Claire Murphy. Around 11:30 a.m. on Valentine’s Day, Murphy and another patroller were caught in an avalanche on Lincoln Mountain while doing mitigation work.

Murphy was one of two ski patrollers swept away by an avalanche on Lincoln Mountain in the resort while doing avalanche mitigation following a heavy snowstorm, the resort said. It was closed to the public at the time. The second patroller was uninjured by the 11:30 a.m. avalanche, the resort said. Murphy was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Claire Murphy was conducting "avalanche mitigation" work on Valentine's Day when she and a colleague were caught in an avalanche. Ski resort officials announced her death Saturday.

One of two Mammoth Mountain ski patrollers injured in an avalanche earlier this month has died from her injuries, Mammoth Resorts said. According to the ski resort, on Feb. 14 two ski patrollers performing avalanche mitigation work were caught in an avalanche on Lincoln Mountain.

On Saturday, Mammoth Mountain Resort said ski patroller Claire Murphy died Friday night after she was caught in an avalanche on Feb. 14 on Lincoln Mountain. "Our hearts are with her family and our community as we navigate this tragedy together," the resort said in a statement.

A Mammoth Mountain ski patrol employee has died after sustaining serious injuries last week from an avalanche. The avalanche occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 14 when two ski patrol employees were out on the mountain during their avalanche mitigation work.
