Beirut (Lebanon) (AFP) – Israeli forces launched strikes on Lebanon including the capital Beirut on Monday, the military said, after Tehran-backed militant group Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in retaliation for the killing of Iran's supreme leader.
The Israeli army has launched a wave of airstrikes in Lebanon, saying the strikes are “in response to rocket fire toward northern Israel”, according to Israeli media reports. Earlier, the army said that it intercepted a rocket fired from Lebanon, adding that other rockets fell in open areas without causing damage or injuries.
BEIRUT, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Lebanon's presidency said on Saturday it had been told by the U.S. ambassador that Israel would not escalate against Lebanon as long as there are no hostile acts from the Lebanese side, following the launch of U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran.
Sirens were activated in northern Israel a short while ago due to projectiles fired from Lebanon, the IDF says. The sirens went off in the northern city of Haifa and surrounding areas, as well as in several other locations in the Upper Galilee.
Israel has killed multiple senior officials with Iran's armed proxies like Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon since the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
