Despite some thin losses spread around the bottom half of the Dow Jones. Key industrial leaders are gaining ground, outpacing the losers and bolstering the overall equity index. Boeing (BA) rose 6.5% to $186 per share, followed by Salesforce (CRM) which climbed 5.5% to $366 per share.
The five stocks at the bottom of the barrel, which pulled down the winners, were in fact, losers. Not only were they the tail of a year with growth, but they all lost value over the year. In order of best to worst, the list includes Johnson & Johnson ( JNJ 4.13%), Merck ( MRK 2.50%), Amgen ( AMGN 2.73%), Nike ( NKE 2.73%), and Boeing ( BA -0.51%).
Bulls will need to see Boeing shares rise above the $200 psychological level that would allow the 100-day to surpass the 200-day average. The difference in the slower averages has been remarkably consistent since October, so a sharp rise in the share price is necessary to give this uptrend the veneer of confidence.
