Move over, Oracle Java. Downloads of the Eclipse Foundation’s Temurin Java SE binaries have more than doubled year over year, to more than 12 million downloads per month, Eclipse said on March 14.

Java, more specifically the J2ME mobile version of Oracle’s software platform (it was developed by Sun, which Oracle now owns), works on most low-end phones worldwide.

Patch your computer by going to Sun's Java page. Click on the button in the top-left green box, which leads to a free Java download. The software will start downloading automatically onto Windows PCs.

It’s not clear whether Java 7 is more for regular users or for developers at this point, because the Free Java Download link at java.com still takes users to Version 6 Update 29.
