New York Yankees fans simultaneously received both positive and alarming news regarding Giancarlo Stanton Thursday night. Understandably, they are much more focused on the bad than on the good. MLB insider Jon Heyman reported that the Yankees are “optimistic” Stanton—who is out indefinitely due to elbow issues in both arms—could be back by Memorial Day.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Giancarlo Stanton's return date remains uncertain. The New York Yankees slugger continues to battle significant elbow pain, and now we learn a chronic calf issue has become another layer of concern.

Giancarlo Stanton said his elbow injuries are “considered severe in both elbows.” He attributes it to “bat adjustments” from last season and is unsure when he will be able to resume baseball activities. If surgery is needed, he said it would be season-ending.

The DH arrived for spring training with what manager Aaron Boone that day described as "tennis elbow," which Stanton said was "tears in your tendon."

Giancarlo Stanton will return to New York for a third round of platelet-rich plasma injections in his ailing elbows on Monday.
