The funeral for Sgt. Joseph Azcona, a New Jersey police officer shot and killed in the line of duty, is being held today in Newark.

A Newark police officer was killed in the line of duty Friday night in a shooting that also wounded a second officer, according to police union officials. The officers were shot at 6:37 p.m. in the area of Broadway and Carteret Street in Newark, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Family and fellow officers are saying their final goodbyes to Newark Police Det. Joseph Azcona, 26, who was shot and killed in the line of duty. A 14-year-old boy was charged in his murder.
