Mayor Karen Bass said Sunday that Los Angeles does not need National Guard troops to bolster city police amid protests against raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, despite violent incidents.

The appeals court issued its pause just hours after Judge Charles Breyer wrote that Trump’s “actions were illegal." The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear the case on June 17.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has temporarily blocked a federal judge’s order that directed President Donald Trump to return control of National Guard troops to California after he deployed them there following protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids.
