Many aren’t sold on LeBron’s surprising excuse for not attending the annual event in New York City with his wife.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James said he will be unable to attend Monday night's Met Gala due to a knee injury that he sustained last week. James previously was announced as honorary chair for the iconic fashion event that serves as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

However, shortly after that Game 5 loss, word emerged that the 40-year-old star had suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain that would've sidelined him for weeks had the Lakers continued playing. That injury timetable apparently extends to galas as well, as James announced on Monday morning that he would not be in attendance for that evening's festivities.
