The new feature keeps Gemini ahead of Anthropic, which released its own chat memory function a couple of days ago for its Claude chatbot. Claude’s new memory works the way Gemini’s used to, where you have to specifically ask Claude to reference old chats and apply that knowledge to new conversations.

The latest Gemini features will allow the chatbot to easily recall past conversations, while also creating temporary, disappearing chats.

Google’s Gemini chatbot can now use past chats to give users a more personalized experience. The new feature, which will be on by default, will be rolling out to all users over the coming weeks, but there will be an option to turn it off. A new Temporary Chat feature will also let users have on-off chats with the assistant.
