Metra trains halted in Chicago's west suburbs after train hits, kills pedestrian

Trains on the Metra BNSF line were halted just in time for the afternoon rush Monday, after a train hit and killed a pedestrian in Downers Grove, Illinois.Downers Grove police said at 4:36 p.m., they were called to the BNSF tracks in the 1400 block of Gilbert Avenue — about four blocks west of the Forest Avenue crossing and close to downtown Downers Grove — for a report of a pedestrian being hit by an inbound train.

2nd pedestrian killed by Metra BNSF train in less than 24 hours in Downers Grove

Train No. 1244 will also not operate temporarily. On Monday evening, a train also struck a pedestrian in the same area. Monday's crash was near Gilbert Avenue, and a Metra spokesperson said that person also did not survive. Mark Zycinski was riding in both trains that hit someone, two days in a row.
