Austin Butler has landed his next movie role, with the star set to lead the upcoming American Psycho reboot. It was announced in October that Luca Guadagnino – best known for Challengers and Call Me By Your Name – would helm an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s 1991 novel, which had previously been made into a film in 2000 by Mary Harron.

Luca Guadagnino’s take on American Psycho is shaping up. Austin Butler has landed the role of Patrick Bateman, originally played by Christian Bale, Variety reports. The trade reports that Jacob Elordi had previously been rumored to take the role; apparently, someone got their Elvises crossed.

In reporting from Variety confirming Butler in the role, one of those actors was directly named as Butler’s rival for the part, thanks to rumors that Euphoria star Jacob Elordi was also in the running. Which isn’t a bad alternative to have mentioned in the same conversation as Mr. Butler.
