Three months after being fired as Virginia Tech's head coach, Brent Pry is returning to the Hokies as their defensive coordinator under James Franklin

Virginia Tech has hired former head coach Brent Pry to be the defensive coordinator under James Franklin, according to ESPN.

When James Franklin was fired as the head coach of Penn State on Oct. 12, the Big Ten program had the No. 16 class in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Virginia Tech fell as low as No. 121 in the team rankings this fall.

James Franklin got his first taste of Virginia Tech’s “Enter Sandman” tradition on Wednesday as he walked into Cassell Coliseum for his introductory press conference.

According to ESPN, former Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry, who was dismissed by the school in September, is set to return to Blacksburg as the Hokies’ defensive coordinator under newly hired head coach James Franklin.

Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King, Miami defensive end Rueben Bain Jr., and Virginia coach Tony Elliott won top honors from The Associated Press for the 2025 season in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The win marked Duke's first league title since it split one with the Cavaliers in 1989 before the establishment of the ACC Championship Game. Virginia (10-3) was also seeking its first-ever conference championship game victory but couldn't overcome a barrage of clutch plays from the Blue Devils.
