Blizzardlike conditions stemming from a "bomb cyclone" brought heavy snow to the Southeast and ushered in frigid temperatures to much of the East Coast.

Winter weather advisories are in effect across much of western and central New York as a mix of widespread snow and lake-effect snow is expected from Friday through Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

On Friday at 1:11 p.m. the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC released a cold weather advisory valid for Saturday between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. for Northern Outer Banks.

The coldest temperature in Central Park so far this winter has been 9 degrees. Should temperatures reach the forecast low of 5 degrees Sunday morning, it will officially be the coldest conditions of the season. Additionally, the wind chills are likely to be the coldest of the winter, Stark noted.
