Ben Saraf exploded for 40 points in a recent G-League game, showcasing excellent range on his jump shot and an amazing ability to finish at the rim and set his teammates up for clean looks.
The Nets were on pace for the worst Defensive Rating ever (128.5) with Michael Porter Jr. playing as an undersized power forward, Cam Thomas playing desultory defense and Brooklyn lacking enough size in the lineup for a reliable low man.
The Brooklyn Nets are still in the early stages of their rebuild, but the NBA recently announced their intention to review tanking. What does it mean?
Michael Porter Jr. had 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Nets (10-19), while Cam Thomas dropped a game-high 30 points off the bench and was a +27. Anthony Edwards had 28 points for the Timberwolves (20-12), but the Nets simply made more shots as a group (55 percent on field goals vs. 45 percent for Minnesota).
Brooklyn got to the basket early and often against a Wolves team that didn’t step up at either end of the floor.
Since December 15th, most players in the NBA are eligible to be trade and the Brooklyn Nets could be one of the most active teams by the deadline.
It would also reinforce habits the Nets have already emphasized: accountability, availability and real-game reps for young players. Instead of navigating a league where some teams pull the plug early, Brooklyn’s approach would look less like an outlier and more like the standard.
