The NEXT Weather Team has designated Monday as a NEXT Weather Alert Day as impacts from a strong winter storm system continue to affect the state.
As of Sunday morning, Blizzard Warnings were in effect from Grand Forks and Fargo in North Dakota down to Rochester, Minnesota, and Mason City, Iowa, for snowfall between 3 and 8 inches and winds gusting as high as 45 mph, creating whiteout conditions and near-zero visibility through Monday morning.
"A major winter storm will bring heavy snow, freezing rain, and strong winds to parts of northern Michigan through Monday. Blizzard-like conditions and dangerous travel are expected across parts of the area Monday, so be sure to check the latest forecast for updates," the NWS in Gaylords said on X on Dec. 28.

Travel conditions on Monday will be treacherous as a powerful Winter Storm takes aim at Michigan. High winds, blowing snow and extremely low visibility expected.
The National Weather Service is predicting wind gusts between 40-45 mph after midnight Sunday and gusts between 50-60 mph from 7 a.m.to 3 p.m. Monday.
