In the heart of Kerrville, hundreds gathered Thursday evening for a community vigil honoring the victims of the catastrophic Hill Country flooding — a disaster that has already claimed at least 103 lives in Kerr County, with more than 100 still missing.

More than 170 people are still believed to be missing a week after the forceful floodwater hit over the July Fourth weekend.

Kerrville Pets Alive said it's the hub for pet resources and recovery in Kerr County for the 40-mile stretch of the river.

Thousands have chipped in with search and recovery efforts after the July Fourth floods in the Hill Country. More are expected Saturday.

Mourners gathered Wednesday night at Tivy High School's stadium, where they had celebrated victories and suffered losses on the field, said Ricky Pruitt, of the Kerrville Church of Christ. “Tonight is very different than all of those nights,” he said. Among those who died was the school's soccer coach.

Kerrville residents are grappling with widespread damage to homes, cars and belongings after recent flooding. Many are turning to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for financial help.
