A Yahoo executive said it is currently developing its own web browser as part of plans to 'revitalize' its search offering, and would also consider the purchase of other browsers.

Google breaking off Chrome is a proposed remedy by the US Department of Justice in US v. Google, in which Judge Amit Mehta ruled last year that the company is a monopolist in online search. The remedies phase of the trial began on Monday. Google plans to appeal the ruling.

As the federal government and Google work through potential remedies for the company’s illegal monopoly over online search, OpenAI is interested in purchasing the Chrome browser, should the court order it be sold off to loosen Google’s grip on the market.
