Fire crews are focusing on securing the fire line and minimizing spread into the canyon, operations section chief Eric Zanotto said in a Saturday morning update.

The White Sage Fire, sparked by lightning on 9 July, has scorched roughly 1,000 acres near Jacob Lake.

The fire is burning outside the Grand Canyon National Park but approaching Jacob Lake, Arizona, a small settlement known as the gateway to the North Rim.
