Multiple counties in central North Carolina are under a flood watch Wednesday, the National Weather Service in Raleigh said.

People living in flood-prone areas along parts of the East Coast were told to be ready to act if flooding intensifies.

"Widespread moderate to heavy rain will spread across central North Carolina and result in 2 to 4 inches of rain with locally higher amounts of 6 inches possible," the flood watch said.
